Flexural Test on Un-notched Specimen (ASTM-C1018, 1987)

For flexural tensile strength, there are many standard test procedures are available in the literatures. Flexural toughness test as per ASTM-C1018 (1987) was selected to determine the flexural properties of the UHPdC. Figure 1 and Figure 2 shows the general experimental results and test setup of the un-notched specimens with 100 mm square cross-section and span over 300 mm. Prior-to the test, a pre-load of 10 kN was applied to the specimens and then unload to zero. This process was used for 5 cycles and then the specimens were loaded with midspan displacement control rate of 0.25 mm/min til the end of the test. The load will decrease gradually after the peak load has achieved (i.e.    ). DU series, AR series, and SL series summarized the some of the typical experimental results. The characteristic value of flexural strength (     ) obtained from the four-point bending tests for specimen of 100 mm x 100 mm x 300 mm span is 22.6 MPa.
