Perak state might be the next holder for the world record of having the longest ever built 100m single span bridge using the cutting edge technology of ultra-high performance concrete in the world during this time of the year in 2015, as mentioned by Perak Menteri Besar, Dato Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir in a ceremonial groundbreaking yesterday (5th April 2013) at the site of Batu 6 Gerik. Also present were former Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Tajol Rosli Ghazali, State Secretary Officer, Datuk Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan, State Exco Member, Datuk Saarani Mohamad and Ketua UMNO Bahagian Gerik, Datuk Hasbullah Osman.
This 100m long by 5m wide bridge will be manufactured by Dura Technology Sdn Bhd using Grade 150 UHPdC and will be build in a single launch without the need of any piers or columns in the river. The whole project that cost RM6.3 million will be able to hold the capacity up to a 60tonnes vehicle, and this includes road access to the villages. Dato Seri Dr. Zambry also mentioned that this bridge is built with the intention to provide easy and safe access especially for the farmers of the 4000-acres farming land and the 1700 villagers and Orang Asli from villages across Sungai Perak. The existing record of the longest bridge built using UHPdC is in Titi, Negeri Sembilan, with a length measuring up to 51m.
